Postmortem
The Ink-Unity integration was successful, which led to significant improvements in the speed of storytelling. I also managed to successfully manage to do the entire visual novel with one Unity canvas and scene (with the exception of the title scene).
The initial challenges were trying to get the multiple options working, as well as enabling/disabling buttons for choices. Eventually, I turned to Ink for storytelling, and the Ink-Unity proved to be challenging until I found a tutorial by klaudiabronowicka, which works wonderfully. That simplified the process and I was able to focus solely on writing story and finding free assets.
I learned about Ink and took a look at the Ink documentations to learn about knots, diverts, multiple choices, conditional texts, tags, etc. I also learned how to instantiate buttons with vertical group layouts, so I could have a number of buttons without having to manually draw them.
Possible future revisions would include more diverse cast of characters, love interests, endings, stories, sound effects, and audio cue. I would love to have more varied artworks as well as actual character design. I would also like more chapters to better polish and develop the characters (have both the mc and the love interests undergone character development).
